No matter how easy going you are, life can get stressful at times. When stress takes over, even for those who appear to have the calmest center, do not know how to manage it.
Sharing a few quick ways to manage stress.
1. Acknowledging and accepting your Stress is the first step to dealing with it.
You may feel that it may be counter intuitive, but instead of finding why’s if we can say yes I am feeling super-stressed, it will actually help you feel less anxious. It doesn’t matter from where and how you reached to this stage, I know & agree that I am stressed and now i need to deal with it, should be the attitude.
2. If possible and easily doable, walk briskly for 3-5 minutes.
To boost your level of feel good neurotransmitters taking a brisk walk will clear the mind and will make you breathe more deeply, stress and anxiety are deeply linked to shallow breathing.
3. Straighten up your body
When we are extremely stressed or anxious, we try to protect our upper body where our heart and lungs are by hunching over. For immediate relief stand up straight, pull up your shoulders, feet on the ground and widely apart, open up your chest and breathe deeply. This posture reminds your body that it is not in danger right now and is in control, not helpless. If you can’t stand up, may be in the car, just pull your shoulder back and open up your chest. The most important thing is to stop hunching and breathe deeply.
4. Lavender is amazing
It has got a lot of healing qualities. It promotes a feeling of calm and supports deep, restful sleep. When you feel extremely stressed sniff it or put it on your temples or behind the ear and breathe deeply. Keep it handy.
5. Get into doing mode
Do anything, clean a few things off your desk, walk over to the terrace, talk to plants or your bet, it doesn’t matter. Doing an action, listen to music. Interrupt your thought pattern, which is often where anxiety starts.
